Steffi Graf won her 40th consecutive match and the Volkswagen Card Cup, beating Jana Novotna, 6-2, 6-0, at Leipzig, Germany, in their first meeting since this year’s Wimbledon final.
Graf said after the match that she will be operated on today for a bone chip in her right foot and will skip the Barilla Open in Zurich. She is the defending champion.
Graf dominated after breaking Novotna in the sixth game of the first set.
