COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Anderson Ready for Halloween

How is the well-dressed wide receiver attired this season?

In Avery Anderson’s case at UCLA, he is sockless, wearing last year’s shoes over taped ankles. In situations in which going without socks is socially unacceptable--or too cold--he wears anklets that apparently are refugees from a tennis court.

His practice jersey is cut off at the shoulder pads and bunched above the midriff for that revealing look. The pants are slit at the knee for speed, and each finger is taped at the second joint.

His nail polish is black.

“I always wear it that way,” he said. “I didn’t wear the black nail polish for Nebraska and got hurt. Pulled a hamstring.”

He wore it for the San Diego State game, in which he caught a touchdown pass.

“I’m not superstitious,” he said, laughing. “Just careful.”

Cornerback Carl Greenwood has a broken index finger and is not expected to play against Oregon State. He probably could play against a different opponent, but with the Beavers’ emphasis on running out of their wishbone attack, UCLA’s pass defense is not expected to need him.

At 300.4 rushing yards per game, Oregon State is second in the nation, behind Army’s 327.3 yards.
