Phillie closer Mitch Williams got permission to skip Friday’s workout, and said Friday he stayed back at the team hotel in Toronto to get some sleep. “I was up all night looking for assassins,” he said, referring to Philadelphia fans.

Williams, fearing the Phillie fans would boo him all the way to the bullpen after he helped lose Game 4, said they gave him a standing ovation instead. “A couple of weeks before, Mitch had tried to wear Andy’s jersey to walk by them,” Schilling said, referring to Andersen.

Regardless of how John Kruk looks when he plays, Phillie team doctor Phillip Marone says that Kruk is not having any back pain, a condition that caused him to sit out a few games before the playoffs began. “That’s just Kruk,” Marone said. “That’s just how he looks.” Darren Daulton doesn’t look like he is playing in pain, but his knees hurt. He has had seven knee operations and plans to have another this winter. “He does it every year,” Fregosi said. “But try to sit him down, and he fights with me. He played in 147 games this year, and that’s a lot for a catcher.”
