Political science and history students at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks will meet today with Richard Sybert, the state’s planning director and a member of Gov. Pete Wilson’s senior staff.

Sybert announced earlier this month that he will resign his state post Sunday and move to Woodland Hills, where he also plans to set up a law practice.

Sybert has said he is considering a 1994 bid for the local congressional seat now held by Anthony Beilenson (D-Woodland Hills). The highly competitive 24th District runs from Thousand Oaks into the San Fernando Valley and to Malibu.

Appointed by President Reagan as a White House Fellow in 1985, Sybert has also worked on Wilson’s campaigns, served as a senior policy adviser and as the Southern California director on Wilson’s senior staff.

Cal Lutheran officials said Sybert will discuss state planning and political issues before taking questions from the audience.

The session, free and open to the public, is scheduled to run from 12:15 to 1:20 p.m. in Room 1 in the Nygreen building on the Cal Lutheran campus.
