1 Teen Killed, Another Hurt in Shooting : Violence: Santa Ana police say the victims and three men arrested in the drive-by attack are believed to be gang members.
SANTA ANA — A 17-year-old girl was fatally shot in the head outside a restaurant Monday, and police arrested three alleged gang members after a short chase.
Isela Ramos Carrillo of Santa Ana was standing with about 15 other people in front of Taqueria Serrano’s, 2600 W. Edinger Ave., at 12:15 a.m. when two cars drove by and 10 shots were fired into the group, police said.
One bullet hit Miguel Vargas, 18, in his left leg. He was treated at Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana and released, Lt. Bob Helton said.
Carrillo was dead on arrival at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Helton said both she and Vargas are believed to be gang members.
Officers in the area saw the drive-by shooting and chased the two cars--a 1975 Chevrolet Caprice and a 1984 Honda Accord--half a mile to a house in the 2400 block of W. Borchard Avenue, where four men ran inside, Helton said.
Police surrounded the home and three of the suspects surrendered, while one escaped on foot.
In the house, officers found a .30-caliber rifle and a .45-caliber handgun, which were believed to have been used in the shootings, Helton said.
Arrested on suspicion of murder were Vincent Resendez, 18, of Garden Grove; Salvador Gonzalez, 26, of Santa Ana; and Guillermo Flores, 19, of Santa Ana.
Gonzalez was later released and he said later Monday outside his home on Borchard Avenue that he “was asleep in the house” when the shooting occurred. “The cops arrested me for no reason, and they finally let me go. I don’t know anything about any shooting,” Gonzalez said.
Resendez and Flores are being held at the Orange County Jail on $250,000 bail each.
