Injured Buena High Football Star Expected to Return Soon
VENTURA — A knee injury suffered by standout running back George Keiaho of Buena High in a game Saturday is less serious than initially believed, Coach Rick Scott said Monday.
“It’s kind of a wait-and-see thing,” Scott said. “It doesn’t look good for this week (against San Marcos), but I think there’s a chance he’ll play next week (against Ventura).”
Scott had feared that Keiaho would be lost for the season after Keiaho sustained the injury during the opening play in the Bulldogs’ 38-24 Channel League victory over Oxnard. Initially, it appeared that Keiaho had suffered a second-degree tear in the medial collateral tendon of his right knee.
Further tests Sunday, however, revealed the tendon is not torn but stretched. Keiaho will begin therapy today, Scott said.
Keiaho is second in the area in rushing with 1,724 yards and 25 touchdowns. He has 6,061 yards in his career, second on the all-time state rushing list. The first-place Bulldogs are the league’s only undefeated team (6-2, 5-0 in league play).
