STUDIO CITY : TreePeople Puts Roots Down in Park
The Los Angeles City Council on Friday voted unanimously to award the nonprofit educational organization TreePeople a 15-year lease for its headquarters in Coldwater Canyon Park.
Though TreePeople has been operating out of the park, located in the hills above Studio City, on a series of short-term leases since 1977, the new lease marks the first time it has been promised some security at its Mulholland Drive address.
“This has been a long time coming,” said Andy Lipkis, president and founder of TreePeople. “We can finally put down some roots.”
For nearly two decades, TreePeople has offered environmental education programs, led tours and encouraged recreational use of the park at 12601 Mulholland Drive near Coldwater Canyon Avenue.
Under the new rent-free lease, which includes an option for two future terms of five years each, TreePeople will construct and operate an Urban Forest/Environmental Education and Participation Center at its headquarters.
