UNICEF Kicks Off Holiday Fund Drive
The annual UNICEF drive to raise money for needy children kicks off today when the Ventura chapter of the United Nations Assn. begins selling an assortment of greeting cards and other items.
All proceeds from the holiday greeting cards and gifts, which are on display at Household Bank at 3310 Telegraph Road in Ventura, go to the United Nations Children’s Fund to help poor and sick children worldwide.
“There’s a lot to do, and we’re doing the best we can,” said Cecilia Fargo, a local organizer.
Last year, the Ventura chapter raised about $5,000 for the organization, Fargo said.
Items to be sold by volunteers include greeting cards, children’s puzzles, cookbooks and a gold-plated bookmark with the heart-shaped logo of the United Nations Year of the Child.
Items may be purchased Monday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Dec. 17.
