A 36-year-old inmate who escaped from the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho in Saugus remained at large Sunday, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

Jorge Sanchez, a Mexican national, “walked away from his work assignment some time Saturday morning,” said Deputy Benita Hinojos.

About 9:30 a.m. deputies discovered a cut in a chain-link fence of the North Facility, where Sanchez worked in the kitchen. They conducted an inmate count of the North Facility and the Ranch Facility, where Sanchez was housed, and were unable to locate him, Hinojos said.

Sanchez was described as a Latino, 5-foot-9 with black hair and brown eyes, and weighing 155 pounds.

Sanchez was arrested at Glendale Municipal Court on June 1 on charges of evading a peace officer and reckless driving. He was due to be released April 18, 1994.
