Moon Leads Oilers to 38-3 Victory : AFC: Quarterback passes for four touchdowns to pace Houston. Cincinnati remains winless.
CINCINNATI — Still wondering whether the Houston Oilers’ turnaround is real? Look at what they did to the Cincinnati Bengals in the rain Sunday.
Warren Moon threw four touchdowns in 2 1/2 quarters and backup Gary Brown rushed for a career-high 166 yards and another touchdown in a 38-3 victory over the winless Cincinnati Bengals.
Houston (5-4) has a four-game winning streak and a winning record for the first time this season. Although all the wins are against weak teams--Cincinnati twice, New England and Seattle--the Oilers have started putting up their accustomed numbers again.
Moon, benched during a 1-4 start, was solid for a second consecutive week. He completed 23 of 31 for 225 yards and led Houston on five long touchdown drives.
“Our offensive line was really controlling things up front,” said Moon, who was sacked only once.
So was the way they ran the ball without their leading rusher, Lorenzo White, who has a pulled hamstring. Brown, a third-year player who had never started a game, ran for 126 yards in the first half alone.
The Oilers finished with 240 yards rushing, 222 passing, and a 32-9 advantage in first downs.
The Bengals became the first team in the franchise’s 26-year history to go 0-9.
