OUTLOOK
Athletic Director Harper Ephrom had a busy summer trying to replace coach Bill Fitzgibbons, who resigned at the end of the ’93 season after compiling a 96-42 record at the school. After hiring a new coach who subsequently quit to pursue other interests, Ephrom was out looking again to fill the void. He has finally hired Nelson Herrera and is confident in his new coach and team for the upcoming season. “We should definitely finish in the top three,” Ephrom forecast. “I think it’s going to be a really tight race for the championship.” The Comanches made it to the first round of the Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs last season, but were eliminated by Edison, 64-51. Brown returns at the guard position after earning second-team all-league honors her sophomore year. Also returning are junior guard Shabahang, sophomore center Fish and sophomore guard Spjut. Though the team is young--there are no senior starters--the girls have all played together in the past and figure to be a well-balanced squad. “I think the fact that we have a new coaching staff that hasn’t had a chance to work with the girls is a concern,” Ephrom said. “But the team is young and they will all get to work together for the next few years. So we are looking forward to a bright future.”
