Holly Meyers

Marina, Sr.
Tennis / Singles
Meyers has been Marina’s best singles player for three years, but she doesn’t always play in the No. 1 position. She and Coach Don Hohl have determined that Meyers’ powerful groundstrokes are more effective after she has warmed up, so they tinker with the lineup. For instance, Meyers played in the No. 2 spot Saturday in the Division II playoff match at Los Angeles Marymount, winning her first two sets, 6-0, 6-0, before playing No. 1 Terry Hiete and winning, 6-2. Marina won, 11-7, the same score as in a first-round victory over North Torrance.
Other notables:
* Carrie Garritson, Buena Park, posted the fastest girls’ time--18:00--to win her Division II-A heat at the Southern Section cross-country prelims.
* Hilary Kyle, Laguna Beach, had 25 kills in the Artists’ three-game sweep of Capistrano Valley in the Division I volleyball playoffs.
* Ursula Luna, Dana Hills, had 68 assists and 12 aces in a four-game Division I volleyball playoff victory over Los Angeles Marborough.
* Lynn Wu, La Quinta, swept singles sets in a playoff victory over San Bernardino and swept in doubles with Janice Hellie in a loss to Chadwick.
