OC HIGH / STUDENT NEWS & VIEWS : Feeling the Crunch
Class size continues to increase at most Orange County high schools, a source of frustration for students and teachers alike.
So how does the student-teacher ratio affect students? That was the question posed by the Oracle, the student newspaper at Villa Park High School.
Here are some of the answers from students:
* “Larger classes give teachers a harder time. They can’t assign in-depth assignment because they don’t have time to correct them all.”
* “The increased number of students has had a negative effect and offers less chance of student participation. Teachers also don’t have the time to have open discussions because of too many kids.”
* “I feel that teachers and students are overreacting to the above-average class sizes. Larger classes allow for increased class discussions and improved cooperative learning.”
