Ingram Micro, Compaq Sign Distribution Pact

Computer wholesaler Ingram Micro Inc. and Compaq Computer Corp. have signed a pact that will make Ingram one of the Houston-based personal computer maker’s largest distributors.

The two companies have scheduled a joint press conference at Ingram’s Santa Ana headquarters Monday to announce the deal and would not provide any specifics on Friday. But industry trade journals have reported on distribution discussions between the two.

Compaq is the last of the major personal computer makers to sign with a wholesale distributor. In the past, it has insisted on dealing directly with retailers.
