PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : History Against the Buccaneers
History will be on the Raiders’ side when they play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday at the Coliseum. The Buccaneers, 4-9 this season, have played the Raiders only twice in their 18-year history and lost both meetings.
The Buccaneers have also lost nine consecutive games against teams from the AFC West, 19 in a row to teams from California and 19 consecutive road games to AFC teams overall.
Raider linebacker Joe Kelly, who played four seasons at Cincinnati under Tampa Bay Coach Sam Wyche, believes that Wyche will try to use the losing streak as motivation.
“He’ll definitely try to work on their psyche,” said Kelly, who is second on the Raiders, behind Winston Moss, in tackles. “(Wyche)’s telling them that we’re looking past them to get ready for Green Bay and Denver. He’ll use any motivation he can to get his team ready.”

The last time Tampa Bay played the Raiders, Coach Art Shell was still an offensive tackle and the Raiders still called Oakland home.
“That was a long, long time ago,” Shell said Friday of the Raiders’ 18-16 victory in 1981 at the Oakland Coliseum. “All I remember was that we won and I had to play against a very good football player in (Buccaneer defensive end) Lee Roy Selmon.”
