COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Pantazis Leads Irvine Valley’s Onslaught

Lakis Pantazis, who scored 20 points, was one of to seven players to score in double figures for Irvine Valley, which beat College of the Canyons, 109-84, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday at Capistrano Valley High School.

Pantazis, a sophomore guard from Athens, Greece who played at Saddleback College last season, had six three-pointers. Steve Ransom added 15 for Irvine Valley (10-5), which has won three in a row and six of its last seven.

Tom Airey (four three-pointers) and Rashad Wilson each had 14 points, Jeremy Garrett had 12, and Damon Sims and Corey Kost each had 11 for Irvine Valley.

Irvine Valley plays Monday against Ventura in the first round of the Hancock tournament.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Orange Coast 82, Mt. San Antonio 65--LeAnn Kazmer scored a career-high 34 points for the Pirates. Kazmer, a sophomore forward from Wisconsin, made 12 of 16 shots from the field and 10 of 12 free-throw attempts. She also had seven rebounds and three steals.

Kazmer had been OCC’e leading scorer in 13 of 16 games this season.

America Robledo, from Santiago High School, added 17 points for OCC (11-5).

Orange Coast led, 39-23, at the half. The Pirates’ biggest lead, 73-50, came with about six minutes left.

Mt. San Antonio is 10-4.
