Glendora : Police Contract Talks Stall
Negotiations have failed again to produce a contract acceptable to both the city of Glendora and its two police unions, Assistant City Manager Culver Heaton reported last week.
“After a dozen bargaining sessions over the past eight months, we still have not reached an agreement,” Heaton said. “We’re very disappointed.”
The Glendora Police Management Assn., which represents the department’s 13 sergeants, lieutenants and captains, met with city officials and a state-appointed mediator for four hours Tuesday without reaching a contract agreement.
The Glendora Police Officers Assn., which represents 38 officers below the rank of sergeant, also rejected a contract offer from the city Tuesday by a vote of 32-4.
The unions want improved medical benefits and a salary survey of selected San Gabriel Valley cities to ensure that Glendora officers receive comparable wages, said officer Gino Domico, president of the officers association.
Heaton said the city anticipates a $750,000 budget deficit this year and cannot guarantee any wage increases.
Under city rules, the contract disputes will go to the City Council in January for action, he said.
