Man Charged in Freeway Death
PANORAMA CITY — A 21-year-old Burbank man was killed early Saturday when he was struck by another motorist as he changed a flat tire on the side of the San Diego Freeway.
The driver of the wayward car, identified by the California Highway Patrol as Chance Petersen, 25, of North Hollywood, was charged with felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter, said CHP Officer Bill Granados.
Petersen was being held in the jail ward of County-USC Medical Center, where he was taken with injuries suffered in the collision.
The name of the victim, who was declared dead at the scene, was withheld pending notification of relatives.
The accident occurred at 3:48 a.m. when Petersen’s Oldsmobile Cutlass drifted onto the shoulder of the southbound side of the freeway, just south of Plummer Street, and struck the victim’s Toyota Celica, Granados said.
