BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Charging Call Allows Palmdale to Escape
Littlerock High, the fourth-place team in the Golden League, thought it had upset The Times’ third-ranked team on its home floor Tuesday night, but a charging call with one second left wiped out the would-be winning basket and allowed Palmdale to beat the Lobos, 58-56.
Palmdale (16-3, 10-0 in Golden League play) took a 57-56 lead when Maurice Wright made a 10-foot baseline jump shot. Littlerock (8-10, 4-6) rushed the ball up the floor and John George, who scored 18 points, made a layup with one second left. However, James Jefferson was called for an offensive foul after he passed to George.
