In two of the worst nights of violence to hit Inglewood in recent memory, five people--including a 2-year-old girl--were shot to death and six other people were wounded by gunfire, police said Thursday.

Eight of the 11 were shot within a two-hour period Wednesday night.

“We had our hands full out there,” Inglewood Police Officer Andre Brown said of the Wednesday evening shootings. “I’ve been here 11 years and I’ve never seen that many victims (in one night).”

The shootings began shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday when a woman and her 2-year-old daughter were shot in front of a house in the 2500 block of West 78th Street, police said.

The toddler, identified by authorities as Kyiara Morrow-Jackson, died at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center of a gunshot wound in the chest, police said. Her mother was hospitalized with a leg wound, and there may have been a third victim who left before the police arrived, investigators said.

Minutes after that attack, one of two men sitting in a parked car in the 2200 block of West 78th Street was wounded in a drive-by shooting, said Sgt. Alex Perez, a department spokesman. The man, whose condition was not available, is expected to survive, police said. The other man in the car was not injured.

About 7:30 p.m., a 14-year-old girl was fatally wounded and two other teen-agers suffered minor gunshot wounds in a drive-by shooting in the 800 block of North Eucalyptus Avenue, police said. The girl, identified by the coroner’s office as Tila French, died at the scene.

A 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman, Lashon Bailey, were in stable condition after being wounded in the shooting, Perez said. Their assailants fled in a light-colored, four-door Oldsmobile Cutlass or Cadillac that may have been used in the earlier drive-by shooting on 78th Street, Perez said.

About an hour later, a 32-year-old Los Angeles woman was shot while walking home at 104th Street and 7th Avenue, police said. A man confronted the woman and allegedly tried to sell her drugs, police said. After she refused and began to walk away, the man shot her, investigators said. She is hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

Ten minutes later, a 54-year-old man was shot once in the chest when he struggled with a man who tried to rob him at 102nd Street and Grevillea Avenue, police said. The suspect fled in a light blue Chevrolet Malibu or Caprice station wagon, Perez said. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition, he said.

On Thursday night, three young men were shot to death in a car parked in the 700 block of North Market Street, police said.

Details about that shooting and the identity of the victims were not immediately available.

Except for the drive-by shootings on 78th Street and North Eucalyptus, police said, the attacks appear to be unrelated. No suspects have been arrested.
