Northrop Plans B-2 Layoffs: The company said 1,300 employees who work on the B-2 stealth bomber will be laid off this year as the program continues to gradually wind down. About 75% of the layoffs will occur at Northrop’s Pico Rivera plant, the rest at its Palmdale facility, spokesman Edward Smith said. Northrop previously has said it plans to close the Pico Rivera plant--which currently employs 6,800--in the late 1990s as production of the 20 B-2s on order nears completion.
