COMPTON : Tests Ordered for Officer Who Stole From Motorists
A judge on Friday ordered an ex-Compton police officer convicted of stealing from motorists to state prison for nearly 90 days of diagnostic testing.
Charmagne Drew, 27, wiped tears from her face as Superior Court Judge Michael Tynan denied her lawyer’s request for probation. “There’s no doubt in my mind that--to her dying day--she will say she never did anything . . . (and) in the face of overwhelming evidence,” Tynan said at the end of the sentencing hearing.
Drew was convicted in December on three of five counts of grand theft for stealing a total of $300 from motorists she had pulled over.
During her testimony, Drew accused four of her victims of lying. She was caught when officers set up a sting, and faces up to four years in prison.
