Agoura’s Charge Takes the Steam Out of Simi Valley
THOUSAND OAKS — Agoura’s Brian Ureda made a three-point shot with 11 seconds to play in overtime, giving the Chargers a 60-57 victory over Simi Valley in a key Marmonte League game Friday night at Thousand Oaks High.
It was the Pioneers’ first loss in four games since Coach Dean Bradshaw was suspended.
Simi Valley (15-6, 6-3 in league play) led by 11 midway through the fourth quarter, but two-for-eight free-throw shooting down the stretch helped Agoura (15-6, 9-2) come back.
“The thing I love about this team is that they don’t quit,” Agoura Coach Kevin Pasky said. “All we did was pick up the effort and execute a little better.”
Sophomore Brian Laibow sparked the Charger comeback by scoring 13 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, including a three-pointer to give Agoura a 55-54 lead with 22 seconds to play in regulation.
Simi Valley’s Jeremy Roberts, who led the Pioneers with 15 points, made one of two free throws with 10 seconds to play to send the game into overtime.
