In other Orange Empire Conference men’s games:
Fullerton 87, Rancho Santiago 85--Nathan Small of Rancho Santiago had his half-court, last-second shot go off the rim. Eddie Cochran and Kevin Carlson each had 19 points for Fullerton (22-9, 7-5), which moved into a third-place tie with Rancho Santiago (19-10, 7-5).
Cypress 75, Irvine Valley 71--Host Cypress (14-17, 5-7) won the final home game for retiring Coach Don Johnson. Jeff Cummins had 15 and Adam Baker 14 for Cypress. Rashad Wilson had 23 for Irvine Valley (17-13, 5-7).
Riverside 87, Orange Coast 79--Cornel Archer made 10 of 15 shots from the field and a team-high 22 points for visiting Orange Coast (13-14, 3-9). Riverside is 24-6, 10-2.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball games:
Fullerton 64, Rancho Santiago 51--Carrie Glodt had 16 points for second-place Fullerton (19-12, 7-3).
Riverside 74, Orange Coast 70--Audrey McMurry had 26 points for visiting Riverside (23-9, 6-4). LeAnn Kazmer had 20 for Orange Coast (17-12, 5-5).
In the Arizona Mesa baseball tournament:
Fullerton 3-4, Cochise 1-3--John Smith’s two-run single in the seventh inning put Fullerton (4-2) ahead in the second game of a doubleheader. Jon Gardikis had a double and an RBI in the first game.
In the Cypress tournament:
Cypress 23, Mt. San Jacinto 1--Cypress scored a school-record 16 runs in the second inning, surpassing the 13 scored in 1979 against Rio Hondo. The Chargers sent 21 batters to the plate in the second and had seven hits, eight walks and one hit batter.
Jason Hodges was two for five with a homer, two walks and five RBIs. Shortstop Augie Ojeda was four for six with two RBIs and three runs scored. Cypress (4-1) advanced to the championship semifinals against Long Beach at 10 a.m. today.
In Rio Hondo Invitational men’s golf tournament:
Saddleback wins--Saddleback shot 381 for the victory at the California Country Club in Whittier.
Saddleback’s Jason Reeder shot a one-over-par 73, and teammate Aki Amaya shot a 75. Ventura (389) finished second.
