Trojans Swim Past UCLA One Last Time
USC’s Jim Wells and UCLA’s Nicholas Shackell had double victories on a historic Saturday as the USC men’s swimmers defeated UCLA, 132-95, at USC McDonald’s Swim Stadium.
The extra significance of the meet was derived from it probably being the last between the two schools.
UCLA is dropping the sport after the season in an effort to cut costs within its athletic program.
USC is 70-12 in dual meets against the Bruins.
Wells won the 50 freestyle in 21.65 seconds and 200 backstroke in 1:54.28 for the Trojans.
Shackell won the 100 freestyle in 48.58 seconds and swam a 45.60-second leg on the Bruins’ victorious 400 freestyle relay team.
