Renters: Deploring Name-Calling Tactics
The use of terms like “Draconian,” “Anti-Intellectual Elites,” “Fascists,” “Leftists,” and other offensive terms by Kip Dellinger (Letters, Feb. 13) to describe tenants of Santa Monica and supporters of rent control, demands an answer if not an apology.
Mr. Dellinger is an obvious expert in the art of name calling. But he doesn’t even know me, and I do not fit one of his above descriptions.
Neither do my neighbors. Neither do members of Santa Monicans For Renters Rights (SMRR). Neither do members of the Rent Control Board or of the City Council.
We resent and deplore such McCarthy tactics as these which find a place in a newspaper which wins awards for excellence in journalism.
We demand an end to such intolerance, bordering on racism, which tries desperately to take advantage of the misery to human beings caused by the earthquake.
