Remarks Don’t Add Up
With reference to your news story Feb. 11 concerning the campaign for the office of county auditor-controller and Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton’s purported remarks about his qualifications for that position, I believe some comments should be made.
He was quoted as saying, apparently because of his 10 credit hours in unspecified accounting courses, “I believe I have the education to be a CPA.”
In order to be licensed as a CPA in the state of California, a candidate must pass the 2 1/2-day uniform CPA examination, pass an ethics examination and have a minimum number of three years of experience in the practice of public accounting.
His Honor’s 10 units of accounting would not qualify him to take the CPA examination, let alone permit him to practice as a certified public accountant.
