1994 Prep Golf: Six Teams to Watch : Santa Margarita
Coach: Dave Duran (seventh year).
1992-93: 18-0, 10-0 in the Sea View League; won the CIF-SCGA team championship; finished second in the Southern Section team final.
Key returners: Kellee Booth, Sr., won her second consecutive CIF-SCGA girls’ title; Benjamin Bost, Sr.; Tucker Brown, So.; Greg Pittenger, So.; John Vallas, Sr.; Stephen Wagner, So.
Key newcomers: Kelly Craig, Fr.; Nicholas Duran, So.; Sean Lim, Fr.; Brian Wally, So.
Outlook: The Eagles seem to have a deeper team than last year’s. Booth and Wagner, who had the Eagles’ low score at CIF-SCGA, are stronger players than most teams’ No. 1 and No. 2 players, and Duran says he might have 10 players who will average 40 or better. Duran said Craig is as solid as Wagner was last year as a freshman. “We should be at least capable of being in the hunt again for a state position,” Duran said. “That’s not to say we’ll win it, but if everybody plays to their scheduled potential and everybody is at least as good as last year, I think we should be in the hunt.”
