White Sox Reliever Radinsky Is Examined for Growth on Neck
SARASOTA, Fla. — Scott Radinsky, Chicago White Sox relief pitcher, has a growth on the left side of his neck and has undergone tests in California and Florida to determine its nature, the team said Monday.
Results of the tests and further details regarding Scott’s condition will be released in the next few days, the team said. Officials said no further comments would be made until then.
Radinsky, 25, made a career-high 73 appearances last season with the White Sox, going 8-2 with a 4.28 ERA and four saves. Still, he pitched only 54 2/3 innings in 1993. The left-hander has averaged 68 appearances in his four seasons in Chicago.
“I’ve known for a few days and it hasn’t sunk in,” Chicago pitcher Jack McDowell said. “It’s something you can’t prepare for. Everybody is pulling for him. We know how tough and strong he is. If anybody can deal with or have to deal with it, he would be the one to be able to come through on top.”
Radinsky graduated from Simi Valley High in 1986 where he struck out 180 batters in 100 innings during his senior season.
