EL SERENO : Library Plans Free History, Health Talks
The El Sereno Branch Public Library plans several free events in April, including lectures on health trends and local history.
A nutritionist from White Memorial Medical Center will speak April 13 on the new food pyramid, healthful ways to dine out and how to read and interpret food labels. The one-hour discussion begins at 3:30 p.m.
The El Sereno Coordinating Council will sponsor a historical discussion led by environmental planner and historian George Casen about the area from 1769 to the 1950s. The April 18 lecture will begin at 5:30 p.m. at El Sereno Recreation & Park Auditorium, 4721 Klamath St., and will last about two hours.
The library, at 4990 Huntington Drive, will hold an astronomy program from 6 to 8 p.m. April 18, featuring a speaker from Griffith Park Observatory.
The library also offers free after-school tutoring and a Grandparents and Books program, in which senior citizens read to children, from 3 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
