WOODLAND HILLS : Children Sought for Health Care Program
A Woodland Hills nonprofit group is seeking children in the San Fernando Valley to benefit from premium-free health care paid for by a recent $500,000 donation it received.
The CaliforniaKids Healthcare Foundation provides primary and preventive health care for uninsured children whose working parents earn too much to qualify for state-assisted programs but not enough to afford private medical insurance.
The program provides routine physical exams, immunizations, laboratory tests, emergency medical care and other services, spokeswoman Cathy Wolfolk said. The only cost to patients is a $5 fee payable to the health care provider, Wolfolk said.
A $500,000 donation from Blue Cross of California in March allowed the foundation to expand its search for clients, Wolfolk said. The program was started in Los Angeles County in 1992 and has more than 1,000 children enrolled.
To qualify, a child must be a California resident between the ages of 2 and 18, not be eligible for coverage under any federal or state health benefit plan, and not be enrolled under any private health care contract.
