A 69-year-old woman and her ailing 34-year-old grandniece were hospitalized Saturday after they were found unconscious and barely breathing from apparent drug overdoses, authorities said.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department had only sketchy information about the Stanton women and did not release their names. The women were taken to Anaheim General Hospital and West Anaheim Medical Center for treatment.

Sheriff’s Lt. Jay Mendez said investigators are trying to determine whether the overdoses were a murder-suicide attempt.

He said the son of the elderly woman visited their westside condominium near Katella Avenue and Knott Street shortly before 5 p.m. and discovered the unconscious family members. Mendez said the younger woman suffered from cerebral palsy.
