‘Glengarry Glen Ross’

As delineated by David Mamet, in adapting his Pulitzer Prize-winning play to the screen in 1992, the real estate salesmen who work in this corner of New York City are a ferocious lot, abrasive, abusive and tormented by turns. But when they talk, everybody listens, for Mamet is a true magician with streetwise words, a writer who recognizes the poetry hidden in the most scalding language and creates dialogue hot enough to suck all the air out of the screen and leave an audience gasping. It is filled with bravura verbal arias, but under the discreet direction of James Foley, a high-profile cast--including Al Pacino (pictured), Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin and Ed Harris--go through it all flawlessly (TMC Monday at 11:05 p.m.).
