SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A local lawyer was elected president of the Tustin Chamber of Commerce last week.

Vic Gorham, 64, will also serve as head of the executive committee, the chamber’s policy-making body. His one-year term will begin July 1.

Cliff Polston of the Tustin Boys and Girls Club was elected vice president, Al Shifberg-Mencher of Shifberg-Mencher Associates, was chosen as chief financial officer, and Jim Kane of Saddleback Chapel was elected secretary.

The executive committee includes Paul Irby, the outgoing president.

Gorham, who moved his law practice from Irvine in 1984, said that the Chamber of Commerce must help retain businesses in the city by improving further an already “fine business climate.”

One example is the business expo that the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring April 28 at the Tustin Boys and Girls Club, in which local businesses can display their products and services, he said.

Gorham said he thinks the local economy is slowly coming out of a recession.

Executive Director Thomas P. Brennan said three directors also were appointed to one-year terms on the board. They were Jerry Adams of I.D. Investments, Lou Bone of X.L. Lock Inc. and Asta Gasper of Home Savings of America.

Brennan said nine of the 13 members of the board are elected to three-year terms and three are appointed to one-year terms. The outgoing president completes the board membership.
