Pope John Paul II named a new archbishop for Guadalajara, Mexico, nearly a year after the city’s Roman Catholic leader was killed in an airport shootout. Msgr. Juan Sandoval Iniguez, 61, the city’s new archbishop, had been bishop of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, since July, 1992. The Guadalajara post has been vacant since May 24, 1993, when Cardinal Juan Jesus Posadas Ocampo was killed in a drug cartel-related shootout at Guadalajara’s airport.
