Gateway Communications Inc.: The firm struck a peace accord Thursday with Steel Partners II L.P., an investment group that said earlier this week it planned to launch a proxy fight for control of the computer network company’s board.

The two companies agreed that several members of Steel Partners will be nominated to serve on Gateway’s board. At its annual meeting, set for May 26, Gateway will nominate a slate including investment group members Warren Lichtenstein, Jack Howard and Ronald Hayes. Patrick D. Cadigan, chief executive of Gateway, will also be nominated.

The company’s board now has seven members, but the company’s bylaws permit as few as four directors.
