STANTON : Slaying Victim’s Identity Determined
A man found shot to death in the back seat of a car on Sunday has been identified as Gustavo Gomez, 31, a sheriff’s official said Thursday.
Lt. Dan Martini said investigators had difficulty identifying the victim, who had a lengthy arrest record, because he had at least six aliases.
Gomez, who had been shot in the head, was found in the 7300 block of Syracuse Street inside a 1985 Toyota that was registered under one of his aliases, Martini said.
“Because of his criminal history, we are looking into the possibility that this may have been the result of a drug deal gone bad,” Martini said. “But at this point, we have nothing to confirm that.”
The body was discovered when a neighbor called to report that the car had not been moved in two days. Martini said investigators believe that Gomez was killed at a different location, then left on Syracuse Street.
