11 More World Cup Sellouts
NEW YORK — Eleven World Cup games sold out Sunday during the first day of single-game ticket sales, increasing the total of sellouts during the first three rounds to 16.
Tickets remain available for all games involving the U.S. team.
U.S. World Cup officials said they estimated more than 100,000 of about 450,000 available single-game tickets were sold Sunday. Only strips for each site were available before last week’s initial four-day “private sale,” which was announced only to those on a mailing list.
Among the games that sold out Sunday were the World Cup opener between Germany and Bolivia at Chicago on June 17, the quarterfinal at East Rutherford, N.J., on July 10 and second-round games at Chicago and Washington on July 2, and East Rutherford on July 5.
Tickets were available for 32 games Monday, including all price categories for all games at Dallas and Pontiac, Mich.
