Katella Coach Pushes Player, Knocks Down Official, Is Ejected
ANAHEIM — Katella softball Coach Rhonda Weyer was ejected in the seventh inning of Thursday’s 3-2, 12-inning loss to Esperanza, after knocking down an official and then pushing an opposing player.
Umpire Mike Callahan, who said he will mail a report to the Southern Section office today, said Esperanza catcher Julia Cappelli dived to tag Mandy Van Son and landed on top of her. Van Son never reached the plate.
Callahan continued: “I’m making the call, and someone came up behind me and pushed me on my backside. (Weyer) grabbed (Cappelli) from the ground, turned her around and pushed her toward first base.”
Weyer could not be reached for comment.
