Two completely restored World War II-era bombers will land at Camarillo Airport on Tuesday and will be available for public tours and flights through Thursday, officials said.
A B-17G Flying Fortress and a B-24J Liberator are scheduled to arrive midafternoon Tuesday with public tours beginning at 3 p.m., according to Ventura resident George Goodwin, a spokesman for the Massachusetts-based Collings Foundation, the nonprofit group that owns and operates the bombers.
The planes will also be available for public tours from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Tour admission is $7.
Goodwin said the B-17G, named the “Nine-O-Nine,” and the B-24J, called “The All American,” are in the middle of a multi-city statewide goodwill and fund-raising tour.
While several B-17s are still in flying shape, the foundation’s B-24 is the only known bomber of its kind still flying, he said.
Special dawn and dusk “patrol” flights in either of the warplanes are available for a $300 contribution to the nonprofit foundation.
