Buyukuncu set three Division I records, one of which broke his national prep record in the 100-yard backstroke, at the Southern Section Division I finals. He won the 50 free in a section-record 20.27 seconds, the 100 back in 47.50 and helped the Warriors to victories in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. In the 400 relay, he swam the first 100 in 43.85, breaking the record of 44.27 set by Mission Viejo’s Eric Diehl. “A 43, I never thought I’d see a high school kid do that,” Woodbridge Coach Dan Gaines said. “My heart’s still pounding thinking about it.”
