In Brief
** Van Morrison, “A Night in San Francisco,” Polydor. Only the Man’s completist fans will want this two-disc live set--which is not to say it chronicles a sub-par performance or is poorly recorded. Indeed, Morrison’s marvelous voice has weathered three decades with nary a chink, and the Tom Jones-meets-Junior Wells arrangements have a novel appeal. But does anyone really need another version of “Moondance”?
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
