HOLLYWOOD : New Shelter to Open for 50 Homeless Youths
The largest shelter in Hollywood designed for homeless and runaway juveniles will open its doors to about 50 youths next Tuesday, officials of Covenant House California announced Wednesday.
The new building at 1325 N. Western Avenue features 12 bedrooms with vaulted ceilings, a state-of-the-art security system, a basketball court and an amphitheater.
Painted in bright colors and featuring living accommodations similar to those found in private homes, the new facility is designed to provide a “non-institutional” environment, said Della Wu, a spokeswoman for the shelter.
Founded in 1988, Covenant House California is a nonprofit organization that provides food, shelter, crisis intervention counseling and medical assistance to street youths.
