Anaheim Expo Will Showcase Toon Technology

Leading Japanese and American animation designers and state-of-the-art animation technology will take center stage at Anime Expo ‘94, a major animation industry convention to be held Friday through Sunday at the Anaheim Convention Center and Anaheim Marriott hotel.

The expo, sponsored by the nonprofit, Bay Area-based Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation, will include panel discussions and autograph sessions with such designers as Haruhiko Mikimoto, Nobuteru Yuuki and comic creator Izumi Matsumoto.

Alan Hastings, originator of the Lightwave 3D software used to create computer effects in the movies “Jurassic Park” and “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country,” will illuminate his work as well.

Pixar, the company responsible for computer graphics in “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin,” is among those expected to send representatives. Expo attendees may also view popular Japanese animation programs, an exhibit of animation-related art from around the world, and animation technology products.

The expo begins Friday at 10 a.m. and runs through Sunday until 2 p.m. Dealers room and art show hours are Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
