CITY HALL : REDONDO BEACH : Budget Allows for 2 Additional Firefighters

Ending an attrition program that cut 77 positions in three years, the Redondo Beach City Council added two firefighting positions to the city’s staff Tuesday. The decision came as part of the approval of the city’s budget for fiscal year 1994-95.

The city’s $63-million budget also adds two public works employees and $55,000 for incentives, bonuses and other compensation.

A controversial plan to charge residents and businesses a monthly fee to fund $16 million in maintenance and repairs to the city’s sewer system was vetoed by Mayor Brad Parton earlier this month, but the city did approve $2 million to start some of those projects under the new budget.
