After a five-week impasse, union officials and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District have agreed on a pay increase for school employees.

Under a three-year contract, more than 300 classified employees, such as secretaries and gardeners, will get a 2.26% raise.

The increase is the same amount district teachers received in an earlier agreement, said Erwin N. Jones, the district’s interim superintendent.

The agreement is expected to be adopted at the district’s July 18 board meeting.

Salaries will account for 85% of the district’s $30-million budget for 1994-95, Jones said. “We don’t have a lot of money,” Jones said. “We’ll end up getting just about the same amount as we got (from the state) last year.”

About 8,500 students attend the district’s high school, two intermediate schools, and eight elementary schools.
