VENTURA : Zoning Changes to Assist Businesses

Some types of businesses and nonprofit organizations will find it easier to open in Ventura under zoning changes approved by the City Council.

Most retail businesses have not been required to apply for use permits before opening their doors for business, but establishments such as churches, day-care and veterinary offices were required to work through a costly and time-consuming process before operating in the city.

The zoning changes approved this week allow such businesses to forgo use permits as well. The changes also allow many businesses in the city to provide fewer parking spaces for customers than previously required.
