VENTURA : More Food Vendors Sought for Beaches

In an effort to make Ventura’s beaches and parks more attractive to residents, the city is increasing the number of food vendors to offer snacks at some of the city’s most popular public spaces.

City officials are seeking applications from vendors interested in obtaining one-year permits to operate at Arroyo Verde Park, Marina Park, Surfers’ Point at Seaside Park, and the base of the Ventura Pier. The deadline is Friday.

“We want to make the beaches and parks more enjoyable for people,” said Debbie Solomon, a public affairs coordinator for the city.

Although they do not have any numbers, Solomon said police and parks officials have reported an increase in foot traffic on the beaches and parks so far this summer.

Two mobile food vendors have been selling food at the Ventura Pier for the last 18 months, and the city wants to increase that number.

Solomon said the city does not know yet how many permits it will issue, but officials hope to have a range of offerings including hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream and pretzel vendors.

Vendors applying for a permit should mention in their applications the type of food they can provide, the site and what hours they would operate.

Applications should be submitted to: City of Ventura, Greg Gilmer, Parks Division, P.O. Box 99, Ventura 93002. For information, 652-4556.
