Cholera Kills 40 in Yemen; 150 Ill
Cholera has killed at least 40 people in Aden, where water shortages after the two-month civil war have been made worse by looters who damaged pumping equipment, medical experts said Sunday.
Hospital officials said 150 other cholera cases have been recorded since Thursday, two weeks after northern forces pushed southern secessionists out of Aden.
Cholera, transmitted by infected feces, spreads rapidly and can kill its victims within hours. More people will be stricken if water service is not restored and piles of garbage and debris left from the war are not cleaned up, the officials said.
