Business PACs Spent 3 Times More Than Labor on Congress
Business political action committees donated $203 million to current members of Congress during the six years ending in 1993, more than three times as much as PACs linked to labor unions, the political watchdog group Common Cause reported.
Business outspent labor in donations to Democrats in the House of Representatives, $72.7 million to $57.5 million. The difference was even more lopsided in donations to Republicans, with businesses donating $58.8 million, compared to labor’s $4.7 million.
In the Senate, businesses outspent labor 2 to 1 on the Democratic side, $32.2 million to $15.2 million. Business donated $39.8 million to Republicans, compared to only $1.5 million by labor groups.
